Rowan's 16th Birthday!

Rowan's 16th birthday celebration was long and drawn out. We spent a solid two weeks celebrating our guy in various ways.

Rowan's birthday celebration kicked off in Morton with Grandma. Rowan chose Monical's pizza for dinner. It was great.

We went back to Grandma's house for dessert and gifts. Thank you Grandma for the check!

Dessert was Row's favorite thumbprint cookies.

July 27:

Rowan's actual birthday fell over Family Weekend. It was extra special to celebrate with extra cousins, aunts and uncles!

Chocolate Chip pancakes were a great start.

Rowan got a delicious ice cream sundae and had the entire family sing to him at breakfast. The rest of the day was spent at Volo Auto Museum looking at cars and chatting with the older guys. Thanks again to the entire Obermayer clan for making his day so special!

After Family Weekend wrapped up, we headed back to Grammy and Grampy's house for yet another celebration!

Rowan received a new custom computer keyboard that he designed himself from Grammy, Grampy and the O'Connors.

Thank you for the card and check, Linda!

He opened some gifts from us including some clothing items, a few gift cards to his favorite restaurant and.......

a car in the driveway! While the car is our third family car and not solely his, it will be the car he primarily drives so I guess he's calling it his. ;)

Happy 16th birthday sweet Row!

I am so thankful for you. It's crazy to me that you are sixteen years old but also, it seems like a lifetime ago that you fit in my lap. As you enter this new stage of life with your newfound independence, I pray that you remember all those chats we've had together in the car over the last years. Chats about the importance of faith, of loving God above all else, of doing what is right, and standing up for others. Chats about having fun, being a good friend and not taking yourself too seriously. I tried so hard to be deliberate with our hours of car time and it's hard for me to let that little piece of you go but I know you're ready. Put on a little praise music as your drive to get through rough days and know that I will be driving in my car singing the same songs and praying them over you. I know this is sappy but I love you so much and I've truly loved (almost) every minute of shuttling you around the past sixteen years. Be safe, baby boy!

Love you!

August 7:

The final part of Rowan's 16th celebration occurred on August 7 when he took his road driving test and received his official license! This was delayed by two days thanks to Tropical Storm Debby. Rowan did a great job on the road test- although ask him about signaling before you perform a three point turn. ;)

August 11:

The birthday fun continued as Rowan and 5 and a mixed group of boy/girl friends did an Escape Room together. Unfortunately, the Escape Room lost the photo they took of the kids afterwards but I did want to add this so I don't forget. *I'm trying to be a big girl about the lack of a picture. :)

July

Whew, July was a whirlwind of activity, friends and family. This month absolutely flew by.  I don't have any photos but Rowan spent the 4th of July at the beach with friends and the rest of us stayed here and shot off fireworks at home!

Tremaine:

On the 5th, Coco and I headed up to Orlando for Tremaine Nationals. This really wasn't Cora's week as she fell and hit her head on stage a few seconds into her jazz solo. The rest of the week was fun but it took her a little while to shake that. We shopped with friends, watched dances and attended the fancy gala on the final evening. Coco and I arrived home around 1:00 AM as we had a very special visitor arriving the next morning.

Claire Visits:

The morning after we returned home from Tremaine, Cora's Tennessee bestie flew by herself to stay with us for a few days. We had the best time doing all of the girls favorite things. We hit up Sephora and Starbucks. We ate sushi and lots of Chick Fil A. We visited the beach and Busch Gardens. The girls even snuck in some dancing as they attended Cora's last week of intensives together. After five days in Florida, we all packed up and headed to TN for a couple more days together.

We finished off our Nashville stay with a visit to Nashville Shores with the Patricks!

Cruz Neurologist:

While in Nashville, Cruz had his yearly EEG. While we had hoped and prayed that this might be the year of outgrowing his epilepsy, his EEG still showed spikes during sleep. This means another year of medication.

Family Weekend:

We arrived home from Nashville late on a Saturday night and headed to Illinois on Tuesday. We spent a fun weekend with my extended family celebrating GeeGee's 97th birthday. I loved getting to spend time with my cousins and the kids love their extended bunch of cousins. We ate a lot of good food and enjoyed being together.

Jade and Coco, the original sister cousins, dressed like twins without planning. :)

Illinois Visit:

Aside from Family Weekend, we got to spend a couple of days in Morton with Grandma and in Crystal Lake with Grammy and Grammy. We had the best time! Rowan also got to celebrate his 16th birthday multiple times (more on that in a separate post).

We got a bonus night with GeeGee as we picked her up for dinner at Red Robin.

IllinoisVisit#16
A quick stop at Pop's Corn Crib... a must in Crystal Lake.

We finished up the trip with Portillos and Culvers for dessert with Aunt Mar. What a fun and special week. We arrived home around midnight and with that, it's officially August! :)
