I cannot believe that Rowan is almost 4 months old! I was thinking about that today and realized that I never really wrote down his birth story and some people have never heard stories of the day Rowan entered the world. Don't worry, I won't get too graphic! :-)
Roger and I knew that we were going to be induced sometime during the evening of July 26th. We were pretty excited all day and ended up going to see the new Batman movie that day to keep us busy. Around 7:00, Scottsdale Shea hospital called letting us know they were ready for us to come in. We couldn't leave right away though because I wanted to shower, do my hair, and put on a bit of makeup. HA.
We arrived at the hospital around 10:30 pm. Scottsdale Shea is a very nice hospital but before you get to enjoy the large private rooms, you must endure the Triage unit. It was nice too but you had to share a bathroom, the beds weren't as comfy and the TV was much smaller. While there the doctor broke my water, started the pitocin and left us to hang out.
Around 1:00 (about 2 hours into this) the pain started to get really bad so I asked for an epidural. I had been planning to get one the entire time but didn't want to appear to wimpy and ask for it too early. At that time, I was only 3 cm dilated. The good news was that when you get the epidural they move you to the cushy delivery room! I got the epidural around 1:15 then Roger and I both decided to try to get some sleep.

At 2:30 I started feeling strange again so the doctor came in and I was already to 10 cm. This is where it became unpleasant. My doctor had JUST gone into the OR to do a C-Section so they would not let me push. The next 2 and a half hours were the WORST. I had to lay there and wait. Finally I got to start pushing around 4:45ish and Rowan was born at 5:48AM.

He cried right away and I personally checked to make sure he was a boy. :-) They got him cleaned up and brought him to me. My favorite part of the whole experience..... I didn't have to miss a meal! They brought me the breakfast menu an hour after he was born! :-)
Roger and I had a really great experience at the hospital. We really enjoyed bonding as a little family. We watched countless episodes of Seinfeld, ordered pizza, and just hung out. It was great! (It was also great to see all our family a few days later.) Sorry this was so long... Your reward for reading is some never before seen hospital pictures!
