Ambassadors 11U Tournament:
Sweet Rowan's baseball team is mediocre at best. We tried a new league for him this year and while we love the league, he really needs more of a challenge. While this team hasn't been great for his baseball growth, we've talked about the fact that maybe his purpose on this team is to work on his leadership skills. How do you lead when your teammates are making silly mistakes? Can you be a positive leader even when everyone else's attitudes are tanking? Rowan's team seems to look up to him. Their best game this weekend was when Rowan was pitching. We challenged him to think about whether or not that was because of his pitching (it was good) OR because when he's on the mound, his attitude and leadership skills are at their best. One sweet teammate told Rowan, "I'm going to get a hit for you." Rowan knows how to win. Rowan knows how to play well but I am pretty certain that God chose this team for him this year so that he could also know how become a stronger, positive leader.
I've had to take more candid photos as I'm not as welcome in the dugout as I once was.
That's okay though, because this big kid welcomes his dad's thoughts and advice. This is another maturity we've seen in Rowan. Previously, he didn't want any coaching from Roger during games because he already knew everything. ;)
Rowan hit well.
He pitched really well.
Father's Day:
This is about as far into Father's Day as we got before Covid-19 struck. We are truly so grateful for our Daddy though. He's fun, he's present, he loves Jesus and he's not afraid to learn and grow from mistakes. He models apologies and hard work. He's wise, he's a good leader and we are all so very thankful for him.
Covid-19 Quarantine (STUCK AT HOME AGAIN):
Coronavirus derailed our Father's Day plans, dance camp, baseball and our yearly trip to Illinois to see my family. Roger started feeling tired and achy and wanted to take an early nap on Father's Day, which is VERY unlike him. He had mentioned a coworker in Florida saying he wasn't feeling well but nothing had been confirmed at the time (this guy was later confirmed to have Covid). We both agreed that he should go get a test so that we would know how to proceed. He got his positive result the next day.
Roger's symptoms have been super mild. He had a low grade fever of 99.5 on Sunday/Monday morning. He felt a little achy and tired on Monday. We can see how easily this illness is spread in people with mild symptoms. He would probably have gone back to work on Tuesday had we not known. He felt a little worse over the weekend with a headache and some congestion but is feeling better now! Rowan got the virus the Friday after Roger. He had a few days of fever but was otherwise symptom free. The worst part for him was being isolated in his room. So far, Cruz, Cora and I have managed to escape the virus. Our whole family cancelled all plans though and have been quarantining for fourteen days.
The craziness continues but through it we've had faithful friends and family checking in on us, sending meals, groceries and entertainment for our kids. We are thankful for all the prayers and thankful that our experience has been fairly uneventful. I've included a few photos of some (not all) of the treats and love sent our way plus a few pics of the kids playing games and coloring over FaceTime with Grammy & Grammy. Its amazing what you can do when you get creative.
