Rog and I decided to take the kids on an overnight getaway to Tucson. We stayed at the beautiful Westin resort for one night, did a few touristy things, played in the pools and enjoyed time together as a family.
Saturday started out with McDonald's breakfast in the car:
Our first stop was the Titan Missile Museum.
The boys got to learn about the Cold War, read about the Titan Missile program, watch videos of practice launches/explosions of the missile and even a video of school children practicing duck and cover drills.
Other than playing with the computer, this stop had absolutely nothing that interested Miss Sis. We were advised several times (before the tour even started) by some well meaning older folks, that if our kids couldn't stay quiet on the tour we'd be asked to leave, etc. I felt stressed about Cora so she and I kind of hung back, ate some snacks and played outside.
The missile is kept in an underground silo thing. Rog and the boys got to go down a bunch of flights of stairs underground.
Coco and I looked at it from the outside. The glass part was added later as a viewing area. If you looked down you could see the missile. When the missile was active, the tan doors would open and it would fire up out of the ground.
Rog took this inside. If you look up, you can see the glass viewing area that Cora and I were looking through.
Checked in at our hotel.
A little bed jumping, as is our tradition in hotels.
Headed down to the pools! Our hotel had a waterslide which was Rowan and Roger's favorite part.
Dinner was Panera because that is something everyone will eat. :)
Cruz stepped on a cactus.. Daddy to the rescue.
The next morning we got up, put our swimsuits back on and headed down for a little more swimming fun.
The breakfast buffet was a huge hit with the boys. Cora ate for free but I'm pretty sure she ate more than her brothers.
After swimming we explored the hotel a little more, had lunch at In N Out burger and headed home. It was nice to sneak a little extra family time into our super busy summer.
