Quick Update

Rowan has his 1 year check up today. In the words of his doctor, he is "perfect." He weighed 20 lbs 13.5 oz, a little heavier than I thought. He's 3o inches long which is exactly what I estimated. His head growth has slowed down as well (woo hoo) which is great since he's already wearing 24 mo. sized hats. :-) Rowan has added a few new words to his vocabulary lately. He says "nummy nums" when he wants food. He also says "mommy" and "daddy" instead of "mama" and "dada." His walking skills are improving daily, as are his climbing skills. Rowan has completely given up bottles and drinks all of his milk out of a sippy cup. Big boy.

No NEW pictures to share tonight, however, I would never dare post without a picture of some sort. This one is from July 29 of last year. This was the day we brought Rowan home from the hospital. Before he went out to smoke his celebratory cigar I snapped a quick picture of the new daddy with his baby. Guess where Roger is tonight? :-)

Rowan's Birthday Weekend: Final Day

Rowan turned one successfully! We had a fun day visiting Aunt Cheryl at Cross of Christ, lunch with Daddy, and swimming in the pool. Rowan sported a big boy outfit today complete with new Nike shoes that Daddy picked out for him.
Here's the cake from his party... I forgot to post it before! Its actually made up of cupcakes which made it so easy to pass out. :-)

At the beginning of his special day.

Opening his present from Mom & Dad.

Cooper was very interested in helping.

Rowan loves his Bubble Mower!

Today you walked around the house.
One year ago today you sucked on your first binky,
Today you still love your binky.
One year ago today you didn't quite know who we were,
Today you call us Mommy and Daddy.
One year ago today you hadn't met Cooper,
Today he is your best friend.
One year ago today your cries were how you expressed yourself,
Today you say about 8 somewhat distinguishable words.
One year ago today your mouth was all gums,
Today you have eight sharp chompers in there.
One year ago today we fell in love with your beautiful face,
Today we love you even more than we could have imagined.

Happy Birthday Sweet Boy!

Rowan's Birthday Weekend: Day 2

Day 2 of Rowan's big weekend started out with time in the church nursery playing with his friend Brayden. After church we headed to In & Out Burger for lunch. Rowan is certainly enjoying his share of "treats" this weekend. Phoenix has an amazing children's museum. Children under the age of one get in free so we decided to take advantage of Rowan's last day of free admission. He had so much fun!
Cheeseburger with extra mustard and fries.
Down the slide.....

.... up the stairs

Rowan having a tea party, much to Daddy's dismay!

Rog & Row after going through the forest of noodles (the swimming kind)

Playing some sort of xylophone thing made out of wrenches.

Going through a "car wash" on bicycle.

Watching the lights change in the elevator.

Rowan plunged right into the big kid tunnels crawling all around even without Mom or Dad.

Banging some drums

One year ago today Roger and I went to see the movie Batman to celebrate our entry into parenthood. Tonight we are headed to the movies once again to celebrate our one year survival in the wonderful land of parenting! :-)

Rowan's Birthday Weekend: Day 1

Rowan's birthday weekend began with a splash. He started out with a Cheeseburger Happy Meal for lunch. He enjoyed giving the stuffed lamb "loves" when he finished eating. Rowan's luau was a huge success. Much fun was had by all. Tune in tomorrow to see what special events take place on day #2 of Rowan's birthday weekend!

The welcome table adorned with leis and the guest Hawaiian names.

Rowan only wore the hula skirt for a portion of the party!

Washington D.C.

We had a wonderful vacation to Washington D.C. Rowan enjoyed seeing all the sights and was a real great little tourist. The only thing that did not go well was sleeping in the hotel crib. I don't know if it was because he was nervous in a new place or that he could see Mom & Dad right next to him but our nights were reminiscent of his newborn nights. Luckily Grammy & Grampy didn't mind taking him into their bed for some nighttime snuggles!
Roger and I got to take a water taxi to Mt. Vernon for the day. Rowan was with Grammy & Grampy.
Rog & Row with the National Christmas Tree.

My boys at the White House

Rowan wanted to walk up and down the steps at the Jefferson Memorial all by himself. SIGH.

Washington Monument AGAIN. You can seriously see that thing from any point in D.C.

Grammy & Rowan

Rowan enjoyed sight seeing from up high!

Cool little tourist. This was after he slept through the National Archives

Dipping his toes in the Potomac River in the harbour outside our hotel.

Playing some football with Grampy.

This is obviously just a few of the pictures but I tried to represent each day and the events that took place.

To Hold You Over...

Generally the pictures I post are of a well dressed little boy. The pictures are usually cute, red eyeless, and post worthy. Not tonight. As I was busy packing for our trip to D.C., Rowan was busy getting into trouble and looking rather unruly while doing it. Here are some snap shots to hold you over till we get back.

Loading up his push toy with random objects. He loves to collect things.

Walking around (by himself) with a notepad and marker.

Somehow, while I was out of the room, he managed to climb into this thing all by himself.

Please ignore the red marks on his face (from "falling" into the stool) and his dirty shirt and diaper. It was one of those evenings....

Long Time, No Post

The theme in Gymboree this week was Tunnels. Rowan absolutely loves tunnels. After Gymboree we were in Target and I saw this collapsible tunnel just like the ones at his class. I couldn't resist! Rowan and Cooper have been entertaining each other with the tunnel now for over an hour which is why I had a few extra minutes to put up this post! :-)
